The House with Stag is located on the square in the center of the medieval citadel of Sighişoara. It is a registered historical monument. The name comes from the head with trophy of a stag placed at the top of the outside corner. The mural painting representing the stag’s body in natural size, on both facades have been discovered and restored recently.
The House with Stag is one of the oldest buildings in the citadel and the most interesting from the architectural point of view. In the course of history the house has suffered repeated and profound transformations, from a first woode house of the XIIIth century (archaeologically documented) to the complex building of the XVII-th, mentioned in documents at the beginning of 1500 restored after the great fire in 1676 and finished in 1693 (facade inscription). All over the time the house was inhabited, owned by important personalities with high public functions.
1997-2001 The House with Stag has been completely and carefully restored by the Messerschmitt Foundation München, becoming a Romanian-German Cultural Center. It should be mentioned that the renewed “Church on the Hill” of Sighişoara has also been restored by the Messerschmitt Foundation.
The house offers:
- rooms for conferences, meetings and seminars with all the technical facilities for up to 40 participants;
- restaurant, café, confectionary with own gastronomy, Middle European cooking, specialities, for single guests or groups up to 60 persons; half or full boardavailable; wide selection of special vines .
